Pharmacological properties

Gels and ointments are popular for sports injuries. They are used, for example, for sprains, deformations, or impacts. Remedies should cool and relieve pain. Over-the-counter ointments and gels are available for the treatment of sports injuries"Traumeel."

"Traumel" is a homeopathic remedy that contains a mixture of plant extracts that are more or less diluted. According to the manufacturer, "Traumel" is very popular and has a fast action.

Pain is the body's alarm signal that is caused by injury or inflammation. Pain is perceived differently from person to person. Homeopathic remedies are suitable for treating pain because they have few side effects and have little interaction with other medications. The drugs can be combined with other medications.

For migraine-like headaches, the cause should be clarified by a doctor. Homeopathic treatment should be carried out as long-term or interval therapy. In certain circumstances, treatment with a homeopathic remedy may also be indicated in the case of a migraine attack.

Rheumatism, with its numerous clinical symptoms, can be perfectly treated homeopathically. In acute inflammation, the ointment has been shown to be effective in the first phase associated with pain, swelling, and overheating.

Treatment with homeopathic medicines will be successful in relieving pain and reducing swelling. The drugs do not affect the cartilage and bones. An ointment can also be rubbed into painful joints. Pain caused by osteoporosis can be treated with an ointment for no longer than 7 days.

For rheumatoid arthritis or bursitis, tablets are recommended. They are suitable for acute diseases of the shoulder joint and tendons, as well as for longer-term complaints of the shoulder and arm.

In 2013, researchers examined more than 400 people with sprained ankles, divided into three groups. In the first group, patients used Traumel ointment, in the second – gel, and in the third – diclofenac. Diclofenac is a widely used pain medication.

The authors of the study in question wanted to see if smearing the ointment at least eases the pain. It turned out that" Traumel " works no worse than diclofenac in the form of a gel. Scientists suggest that the drug may be an effective alternative to conventional painkillers.

The study was also funded by Heel, the manufacturer of Traumeel. Such participation may have a distorting effect on the"desired effects". Therefore, it is recommended to interpret the results of the study with caution.

It is unclear whether the amount and concentration of diclofenac gel used is too low to significantly help with ankle sprains. Therefore, it may well be that the comparison made by the research team is lagging behind, because "Traumel" in gel form is compared with a possibly slightly effective dose of diclofenac. In addition, the study has other serious shortcomings and therefore does not make sense.

Two other small studies were also poorly performed and do not prove the effectiveness of Traumel. Help ointment or gel "Trumael" for typical sports injuries, you can find out only as a result of future and better research.

Indications for use

In homeopathic medicines, the substances are usually so diluted that they can no longer have any effect. Often they are no longer detected in the lab. Such medicines were no better than counterfeit medicines. The fact that" Traumel " in the form of a gel or ointment can have an effect that goes beyond the pleasant and recommended for cooling sports injuries is still in principle conceivable.

Reason: "Traumel" in the form of an ointment or gel contains not only highly diluted substances in "homeopathic" amounts, but also plant extracts in much higher concentrations. The amount of these plant substances may be sufficient to be effective, at least in theory.

Regardless of whether a suitable and highly dosed mixture of herbal substances has actually been established in the preparation, in order to be able to help with sports injuries, however, it will be necessary to conduct thorough verification in sufficiently large studies.
